Deschooling for Homeschoolers

It's been said that children need a month of deschooling for every year they've been at school. It's not just the kids though - we parents need to deschool as much as they do. We are the ones that worry about education and nag the kids about when, how and why they should be learning this or that. We need to chill out, take the school out of learning - stop thinking of ourselves as homeSCHOOLers and start thinking of ourselves as Educating Parents! Let Beverley show you how.

Tune into How Your Child Learns

Long before I found out about learning styles, I worked out that each of my children learned differently and that what worked for one didn't work for the others. Having said that, there are some things that worked for all three. In this session I'll chat about how to enhance your child's learning environment with a few simple tips, and help you tune into how your child learns.

Oh no! I Forgot to Socialize the Kids!

If you asked most people why kids go to school they'd say that's where kids are taught how to read and write and learn about the world. Parents are typically more concerned with grades than whether or not their child is having a good time at school, has lots of friends, and is popular, etc. So why does socialization suddenly become the area of most concern when children are homeschooled? Learn ways to answer that pesky question we all hate. Plus - explore what socialization is and why it is important!

What is the Australian Homeschool Summit?

Every year Kelly George of Fearless Homeschool organises an all Australian home education online conference packed with information about all aspects of homeschooling and unschooling. For decades we've looked on with envy at the many conferences and conventions held in the USA for homeschooling parents but our much smaller population and the tyranny of distance works against us organsing and holding our own. Kelly came up with a very practical and successful solution - an online conference, by Aussies for Aussies, all Aussie content! The 2019 Summit is her third and is shaping up to be the best yet.

You've probably got some questions about how it all works - that's what this post is about! Kelly has put together this bunch of questions and answers but if you have a different one, pop it in the comments below and I'll find the answer for you!

Q1: Do I need to go anywhere?

No way! It's all online, so you don't even need to leave your couch. With our low population density, in-person events are a great idea, but not doable for most of us, so we're doing it all online.

Q2: Do I have to be a Facebook member?

To attend the live part, yes. It is all running within a Facebook group. You don't have to have a long-term account, and you don't have to use your real name if you prefer not to.

If you really don't want to join, you can still access the recordings at any time, so you won't have to miss the crucial info.

Q4: What exactly do I get if I attend the AHS?

You'll get to come along to ALL of the scheduled workshops and chat with the presenters LIVE - you can get your specific questions answered.

You'll be a member of the private pop-up Facebook group, where we'll all be chatting away, helping everyone to troubleshoot problems. Think of it like coaching - you have a problem, you'll have a team of experienced homeschoolers giving you strategies to solve it!

You'll also have access (forever) to all the recordings. So when you're having trouble with your registration forms, lacking confidence, or getting ready to travel, you can kick back with a cuppa and get the help you need, at the time you need it.

Q3: I'll be away on those dates and won't be able to make it - what can I do?

You can watch from ANYWHERE, so if you can upload holiday snaps to Instagram you can watch the workshops on Facebook. But if you're really going off-grid, you'll be able to watch all the recordings whenever you like - they'll all be uploaded to a special membership area for you to view again..and again..whenever you need a bit of inspiration and help.

Q5: I bought the last one. Should I buy it again?

This year's summit is completely different. We have more workshops from more presenters covering many different areas.

And it's affordable. The registration information alone is worth ten times that (you've seen how much it costs for people to help you with your plan, right?)

I hope that fully answers your questions!!

In my opinion, there really is no downside, and it just might be the thing that helps 2019 be your best homeschool year yet. But I'll leave that up to you. Just don't wait too long, because the presale pricing ends on 17 th January and we begin workshops on February 4 th !

Seriously, don't wait. Check out all the details here: https://australianhomeschoolsummit.com/ref/Beverley/

Learning without School!

We began educating our children in 1985, when our eldest was five. In truth, we had helped them learn what they need to learn since they were born. I am a passionate advocate of allowing children to learn unhindered by unnecessary stress and competition, meeting developmental needs in ways that suit their individual learning styles and preferences. Ours was a homeschooling, unschooling and natural learning family! There are hundreds of articles on this site to help you build confidence as a home educating family. We hope that your home educating adventure is as satisfying as ours was! Beverley Paine
