Welcome to the World of Home Education and Learning Without School!

We began educating our three children in 1985, when our eldest was aged five years. In truth, we had helped them learn what they need to learn as they grew and explored and discovered this amazing world since the moment they were born. I am a passionate advocate of allowing children to learn unhindered by unnecessary stress and competition, meeting developmental needs in ways that suit their individual learning styles and preferences. Ours was a homeschooling, unschooling and natural learning family! There are hundreds of articles on this site to help you build confidence as a home educating family. I hope that your home educating adventure is as satisfying as ours was!

Homeschool Graduates: Beyond Homeschooling, What Next?

© Beverley Paine

There are growing number of families like ours with homeschooled youngsters crossing the threshold of the teenage years into full adult life. Hundreds, maybe even thousands, of people have asked me over the years how homeschooled students 'turn out'. Well, from the evidence splattered all over the internet, my predictions and reassurances that homeschool students make the transition into adult life in much the same way as anyone else is vindicated.

We've yet to see much evidence or the kind of support and networking available in the United States of America emerge in Australia but I have no doubt that it will very soon.

Please help build this page as a resource for Australian homeschooling families by emailing information about Australian homeschool graduates, articles, links, etc.

Homeschool Alumni is a vibrant and encouraging site well worth visiting if, like many others new to the concept of teaching your children at home, you worry about the end result. It is a community of young people interested in continuing the relationships forged among homeschoolers into adult life. Reunion and events that bring graduates together collectively organised and advertised as well as opportunities for international travel and outdoor adventures. Homeschool Alumni provides ministry and community service opportunities to the thousands strong network of homeschool graduates.

Home Educated and Now Adults is a study conducted by Brian Ray that is bound to reassure both parents, homeschool students and just about anyone else! For nearly 20 years, critics and the curious have been asking about the homeschooled: But how will they do in the "real world" of adulthood? As a corollary, they have also asked: What about socialization? This unique study takes a look at the lives of over 7,000 adults from across the United States who were home educated during their elementary and secondary school years.

Homeschool Graduates is a network blogging site that has over 200 homeschool graduates contributors.

Some articles worth reading:

Will We, as Homeschool Graduates, Impact the World?
As I watch my homeschooling career draw to a close, I'm both fascinated and concerned by what I'm observing as the expanding Christian homeschooling movement begins to mature. When I began homeschooling twelve years ago, there were less than a million of us out there. Now, there are over two million!

After Homeschooling: Successful Recent Homeschool Graduates. What Has Homeschooling Produced Lately? A list of recent successful homeschool graduates.

What do Homeschoolers do after Graduation? By Dr. Howard Richman - the results of survey and some suggestions for parents.

After Homeschool: Fifteen Homeschoolers Out in the Real World
This books looks at the lives of 15 homeschoolers between the ages of 17 and 22 examines life after homeschool and offers insights into the effects of homeschooling as these students reenter the mainstream. Featured are interviews with young adults of varying backgrounds, along with their parents, who explain why they chose the homeschooling path, what homeschooling philosophy they followed, and what the future may hold. The result is a revealing glimpse into what this older generation of homeschoolers is like and how they may change the world in which they live.
