"Thank you... The information you supply is real and generous - fantastic reading. Your honesty is rare. Most books do not really explain 'how' as well as you do." Tracy

"A fabulous source of information and inspiration... providing wonderful, detailed information and resources." Faye

"Every time I read your writing it feels like a pat on the shoulder, and that feels really good...Thanks!" Maaike

Since 1989 Beverley Paine has steadfastly promoted and supported home education as an educational choice for Australia families. Her books and websites aim to demystify education, gently deschooling families so that they may meet their children's individual and unique educational and developmental needs. Her honesty, insights and wealth of experience continues to bring hope, reassurance and confidence to families.

Home education is a legal alternative to school education in Australia. State and Territory governments are responsible for regulating home education and have different requirements, however home educating families are able to develop curriculum and learning programs to suit the individual needs of their children.

Poetry Collection

Poems can make us slow down and think, they can make us feel happy or sad, they tell us about ourselves and the world in which we live. Poetry is a special way of sharing our thoughts and feelings with others. Did you know that all songs are poems!

If you've written a song or a poem and want to share it with others we'd love to publish it on our Kids Pages. Poems can be long or short, funny, sad, about anything subject at all! Please find out how to send us your poems in our Submission Guidelines.

Here is a Detective Poem (who what where when why)

Wesley

by Jordan, age 10

My dog Wesley
Laying down
On the shady porch
On a hot summers day
To escape the heat

Me

by Chantelle Sinclair, 2002

When I was one
I had just begun

When I was two
I was nearly new

When I was three
I was hardly me

When I was four
I wasn't much more

When I was five
I was just alive

When I was six
I played with sticks

When I was seven
I dreamed about heaven

When I was eight
I swung on the gate

When I was nine
I climbed a pine

But now I am ten
I can write with a pen.

When We Went to Reef HQ

by Brittany, age 8

When we went to Reef HQ I saw a lot of things,
But no treasure chests full of necklaces and rings!
The leopard sharks and starfish pools were all very well,
But the thing I liked second best was the underwater tunnel!
The thing I liked best was the sea-snakes,
Who, in their underwater gardens do not need rakes!
I also saw a big grey shark,
Hiding away in the dark...

The Natural World

Brittany, age 9

As the breeze whispers through the trees, I listen.
As the brook bubbles and gurgles quietly, I think.
As the wood creaks, I breathe.
As I exhale and the waves lap gently against the shore,
I relax.

Little Drop of Water

Andrea, age 6

Little drop of water why do you dance?
Little drop of water why do you prance?
Little drop of water you're shiny as a lance,
Little drop of water... do a little dance.

Meanings
Lance = sword
Prance = to jump around

I Love Autumn

by Aisling, age 9

Autumn leaves falling down
Acorns covering all the ground
Frozen nose
Frozen toes
Warm and snugly in my bed
With all my blankets over my head
Warm porridge to eat
With sugar not too sweet
That's why I like autumn.

Welcome to the world of home education - learning without school! We officially began educating our three children in 1985, when our eldest was five years. In truth, we had helped them learn what they need to learn as they grew and explored and discovered this amazing world since the moment they were each born! I am a passionate advocate of allowing children to learn unhindered by unnecessary stress and competition, meeting developmental needs in ways that suit their individual learning styles and preferences. Ours was a homeschooling, unschooling and natural learning family! There are hundreds of articles on this site to help you build confidence as a home educating family. I hope that your home educating adventure is as satisfying as ours was!
