I am passionate about learning. Education isn’t something that happens to me passively, I’m an active learner, reflecting on what’s going on in my environment, body and mind continuously and working to make sense of it. I learn from every thing and every moment. Life, with all it’s complexities and layers, is an awesome resource. Robin calls me a philosopher; I am definitely a reflective thinker. Life has to have meaning and purpose and make sense. It has to work. It has to build towards mutually beneficial solutions and actions. That’s how I experience learning: how do you experience learning? We’re all so wonderfully different.
In the space of five weeks our family experienced a marriage, a death and a birth. Deep breaths! Grief and joy, spending happy and sad moments with family and friends: Autumn has truly been an emotional season for us. As a result I’ve abandoned my usual format for this issue and instead of following themes have collected together recent and archived articles I’ve written. It’s a bit of an eclectic mix and I hope you enjoy reading them.
My thoughts over the last month have been focusing on home education regulation. I've rejoined the Home Education Association committee as an ordinary member and have been chatting with some NSW home educating parents about issues that crop up with the review and application process in that state.
Writing for and encouraging home educating families sustains me. It's a two way process : as a reader you offer me so much, for which I am very grateful and why I am committed to producing an affordable magazine. Feedback is always welcome and I'd love to hear your ideas about what you'd like to see included in future issues.
Anyway, make a cuppa, find a pleasant spot in the garden or on a comfy chair and read a few articles, then come back and have another read in a few days.

We began educating our children in 1985, when our eldest was five. In truth, we had helped them learn what they need to learn since they were born. I am a passionate advocate of allowing children to learn unhindered by unnecessary stress and competition, meeting developmental needs in ways that suit their individual learning styles and preferences.
