Write Your Own Home Educating Story
by Beverley Paine
Starting your home education journey and feeling overwhelmed by all the books on the subject you've purchased and articles you've downloaded?
Do what I did: write your own book! Not for publication or sharing, which is where mine ended up, but for yourself and for your children.
Everyday we are writing our own stories - perhaps not on the keyboard or on paper - but as we live we carve a unique and personal and awesome story of exploration, discovery, experience and reflection. As we homeschool or unschool we are learning more about ourselves, our children, our communities and environments. We gradually learn how we learn optimally, what works best for each of us, what doesn't work or would work with a little modification here and there.
We don't need others to show us or tell us what to do and how to do it - we simply need words of encouragement, a sharing of a 'have a go' attitude that builds our confidence and helps us over the few hurdles we encounter, especially on our 'down' or stressful days. We have what it takes to create what we need for our particular situation and for our individual children.
This is your home educating story and it starts with you and your children, in your home and in your community. It's not exactly a blank page but it is a wide-open and far-reaching opportunity that can be anything and everything you want. Focus on identifying and meeting immediate needs - not what you think will be important in 5 or 15 years time but what is happening right now and what will help your child grow and learn right now.

Together with the support of my family, my aim is to help parents educate their children in stress-free, nurturing environments. In addition to building and maintaing this website, I continue to create and manage local and national home educating networks, help to organise conferences and camps, as well as write for, edit and produce newsletters, resource directories and magazines. I am an active support of national, state, regional and local home education groups.

Welcome to the
World of Home Education
and Learning without School!
We began educating our three children in 1985, when our eldest was aged five years. In truth, we had helped them learn what they need to learn as they grew and explored and discovered this amazing world since the moment they were born. I am a passionate advocate of allowing children to learn unhindered by unnecessary stress and competition, meeting developmental needs in ways that suit their individual learning styles and preferences. Ours was a homeschooling, unschooling and natural learning family! There are hundreds of articles on this site to help you build confidence as a home educating family. I hope that your home educating adventure is as satisfying as ours was!
