Saying Yes More Oftenby Cath N I've been making a conscious effort to say "yes" more often. Thinking about why I'm saying "no", and considering if I'm saying it for a valid reason, or just habit. It's interesting because it's really making me question myself. My daughter asked this afternoon if she could have a hot chocolate. My first instinct was to say no...why? Because it's a "treat" not for "whenever", and "bad" for you and full of sugar...etc etc. Then my thought process went like this:
So she got a hot chocolate. So did her younger brother who decided he didn't like it anyway. She was happy, and I have been looking at recipes to make our own... healthier than shop bought... and something we can do together. Learning every day... and I'm not talking about the kids! We began educating our children in 1985, when our eldest was five. In truth, we had helped them learn what they need to learn since they were born. I am a passionate advocate of allowing children to learn unhindered by unnecessary stress and competition, meeting developmental needs in ways that suit their individual learning styles and preferences. Ours was a homeschooling, unschooling and natural learning family! There are hundreds of articles on this site to help you build confidence as a home educating family. We hope that your home educating adventure is as satisfying as ours was! Beverley Paine
