"We offer online classrooms with qualified science teachers who use quality teaching materials to engage students and allow deeper learning through student collaborations and investigations. And we charge less per week than you might pay for one hour with a private tutor." * sponsored ad Unschooling or Ancestral? I've just read this very interesting post on Ancestral Learning dated Sept 2017 and it has given me pause to reflect. Am I an ancestral learner? Probably, but I'd have to go back many generations to find examples of natural, nature-based, human-responsive learning in my ancestral history. I'm a descendant of the colonising people and that sadly is embedded so deeply in my culture. It didn't fit or work for me so I looked to other cultures, as did many of my friends and mentors, for ways of being and learning that make sense. Unschooling for me is a statement of rejection of the indoctrination that occurs through the school-based education system. I use the term unschooling in that sense. And I like the idea that trust in our ability to learn naturally and freely is at the heart of unschooling and that comes from tapping into that deep ancestral way of being and learning. Liberated Learners Network If you are a teacher disillusioned with the school system and thinking of branching out and working with others who feel the same way, this site might interest you. Also, unschoolers and homeschoolers who are interested in organising learning co-ops, bush schools, etc. https://liberatedlearners.net/

A Homeschooling Mum's Maths Australia has just released a free E-book for home educating parents: "A Homeschooling Mum's 10 Secrets to Maths". The ebook is now available for download. The article and PDF E-book share a brief back story about how Maths Australia became advocates of multisensory maths instruction through the experience of home educating with 5 kids. The booklet outlines 10 'secrets' to maths are therefore a culmination of the wins they discovered along the way after the trial and error of trying many maths programs and curriculums. * sponsored ad

and Learning without School! We began educating our children in 1985, when our eldest was five. In truth, we had helped them learn what they need to learn since they were born. I am a passionate advocate of allowing children to learn unhindered by unnecessary stress and competition, meeting developmental needs in ways that suit their individual learning styles and preferences. Ours was a homeschooling, unschooling and natural learning family! There are hundreds of articles on this site to help you build confidence as a home educating family. We hope that your home educating adventure is as satisfying as ours was! Beverley Paine
